Sugar Cookies

  1. Beat sugar and shortening together in a bowl
  2. Add egg yolks and mix
  3. In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder)
  4. Add sour cream to egg mixture and mix
  5. Add dry mix to egg mixture and mix
  6. Split into 3 chunks, wrap with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for a couple hours
  7. Roll flat and use cookie cutters to cut fun shapes (I like thicker cookies, feel free to experiment)
  8. Bake at 350 F for 9-12 minutes depending on thickness
  9. Let cookies cool
  10. Mix the icing ingredients together. You may want to split it up so you can have multiple colors for decorating.
  11. Apply the icing to the cookies
  12. Sprinkle with decorating sugar or sprinkles if you like
