Sugar Cookies
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup shortening (Crisco, butter flavored)
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 cup sour cream
- 5 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- (Icing) 2 cups powdered sugar
- (Icing) 2 tbsp hot water
- (Icing) 3/4 cups light corn syrup
- (Icing) 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- (Icing) Food coloring of your choice
- Beat sugar and shortening together in a bowl
- Add egg yolks and mix
- In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt, baking powder)
- Add sour cream to egg mixture and mix
- Add dry mix to egg mixture and mix
- Split into 3 chunks, wrap with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for a couple hours
- Roll flat and use cookie cutters to cut fun shapes (I like thicker cookies, feel free to experiment)
- Bake at 350 F for 9-12 minutes depending on thickness
- Let cookies cool
- Mix the icing ingredients together. You may want to split it up so you can have multiple colors for decorating.
- Apply the icing to the cookies
- Sprinkle with decorating sugar or sprinkles if you like
